Welcome back to your favorite desktop drive-in. As promised, we are continuing our month long Fred Williamson film fest. This time we’ve got 3 action packed movies with a little something for everyone and a whole lot of that Williamson coolness that the ladies love so much.
Death Journey
Fearing that their star witness will be killed, the feds hire private eye and ex-cop Jessie Crowder to transport the man across country. A lot of people try to tangle with Fred in this one and, of course, a lot of people die.
Mean Johnny Barrows
Decorated Marine Johnny Barrows is harassed by his superior officer and promptly punches the asshole in the face. This, of course, causes him to be dishonorably discharged. Once back in the states Johnny has trouble finding and keeping a job and eventually ends up working as a hitman for the local crime boss.
Joshua
Joshua returns home after the end of the Civil War to discover that his mother has been murdered by a gang of white thugs. Enraged, he rides out on a bloody trail of revenge.

This neat little spaghetti western opens with gunslinger/bounty hunter Mannaja bringing down the man he was hired kill. He then travels to the small mining town of Suttonville. There he is is hired by the towns mayor to take on another job. It seems the man’s daughter is missing and he wants Mannaja to find her. It turns out, however, that he girl was kidnapped by the Mayor’s corrupt associate who is working with a gang of outlaws who want to hijack a silver shipment from the mine that the mayor owns. On top of all that, Mannaja believes that they mayor is responsible for the death of his father and wants a little payback.
Sounds like your typical convoluted Italian western plot right? Well it is, but with one cool addition. The full title of this movie is “Mannaja, A Man Called Blade”. This is because, besides his trusty 44, our grizzled anti hero is also packing a hatchet. The movie is a neat treat for fans of the genre. If you like your westerns with a dash of euro spice, you dig this one.

I categorised this under ‘Westerns” but only because that is what it is listed as on IMDB and a few other place and I didn’t really know where else to put it. It is more a 70s exploitation flick / adventure and survival movie. The plot finds 3 men and 1 woman heading into the Sierras to look for a lost gold mine. Problems arise when one of the group, a man named Sally, turns out to be an unbalanced and dangerous psychotic. He hearses their guide and his attention to the lone female member of the group grows more disturbing and alarming with every mile the group covers. When Sally kills a Mexican bandit for pushing his horse the group is also trailed by a revenge seeking member of the group.
Like I said, this isn’t really a western. From the opening cock-fight to the bloody confrontation at the end, the movie is pure exploitations and fans of the genre should have a good time with it.
