If you are a fan of old school, questionably dubbed, violent 70s Kung Fu movies, you’ve come to the right place this week. We’ve got a two-fisted double bill that you are sure to enjoy

RAGE OF THE MASTER

When a martial arts master and his wife are killed by a former student, his son and daughter want to seek revenge, but neither are powerful enough. Their uncle sends them to Tiger, a distant relative who is reputed to be unrivaled in the ways of beating ass. unfortunately Tiger has promised his ailing mother that he will never fight again. Soon however, things happen that drag him into the conflict anway and much punching, kicking and knife fighting insures.

KUNG FU FEVER

This one is pure Brucesploitaton gold. A training manual that supposedly contains the late Bruce Lee’s secret finger technique (snigger) is sought after by the forces of good and evil alike. That is really it for the plot, but there is enough eye-gouging and x-ray punches to fill in the gaps.

“The greatest love of all is hap……”. NO!, Not that “Bodyguard!. The movie at hand is an eye poking, arm ripping Sonny Chiba vehicle from the 70s. While not quite as bad-ass as his first couple of Street Fighter movies, this is still a nice watch for Chiba fans. Chiba hates drugs and offers to act as a bodyguard for anyone who testifies against the dealers. Of course, taking out five mobsters with his bare hands at the start of the movie gives his offer a bit more credence. A young woman takes him up on the offer and the ass-whipping begins.

Oh, by the way, check out the mangled Bible quote that opens the movie. You may remember it from Pulp Fiction.

Professional hit man Shatter is not having a good week at work. At the start of the movie he is carrying out a contract to assassinate an African dictator. After the job is done he heads to Hong Kong to get paid and lay low for awhile. Unfortunately the people who hired him pull a nasty double-cross and he finds himself pursued by the mod, the police and the brother of the man he’s just killed. Relying on aid from a martial arts master and his own bad-assery, Shatter must find a way to save his skin and get a little payback.

I’ve been listening to a lot of the Hammicus podcast lately (see the link to the right) and I’ve been wanting to put something up from either of the studios. Unfortunately most of their output isn’t public domain. However, as soon as I saw that the Hammicus guys covered Hammer’s entry into the action/martial arts genre, I had to put it up. I hope you enjoy it.

This movie is billed and marketed as a martial arts film and it was in a collection of martial arts films that I picked it up. What it really is, however, is a gangster/revenge movie. There are lots of fights, but most of them are knife fights. Still, there is nothing wrong with a few good, old fashioned, bloody knife fights.

Sometime around the turn of the 20th century an Asian gangster is exiled after a bar room fight results in the death of his crime boss father. He returns a year later only to find out that his gang has joined forces with his rivals and the enemy syndicate is pretty much running everything. Well, our retribution minded protagonist sets out for a little payback and to reclaim what he feels is rightfully his.
