Happy Thanksgiving drive-in fans. I have a little holiday treat for you to enjoy while you slip comfortably into a a Tryptophan induced coma after dinner tonight. I give you, Jive Turkey, the story of super cool, super smooth numbers kingpin Pasha and his fight against the encroaching Italian mod and the local police. This low budget, action, crime thriller is probably one of the most fun blacksploitation movies that you have never seen. Plenty of shoot-outs, car chases, double-crosses, and 70s awesomeness put a smile on your face as you polish of that last piece of pumpkin pie. Oh, and as a special Thanksgiving treat, Jive Turkey throws in a deadly transvestite assassin at no additional cost to you. Enjoy….

You will hear, probably more than you would like, old folks like me saying things like “They don’t make ‘em like this anymore”. In the case of First Spaceship on Venus and older science fiction movies like it, they really don’t. Science Fiction movies today don’t display very much, if any, of that attitude my second grade teacher would have called “pioneer spirit”. There are lots of movies set in space, but how many of them focus on explorers who are there for no other reason than to find out new things and see who or what else may be out there. Other than The Abyss, I can’t think of even a single modern or semi-modern movie about men and women of science just going about the often dangerous, but always noble pursuit of discovery. Hell, nobody is really interested in the real space program now, let alone any fictitious ones.
This movie is the story of a multinational crew of scientists who set off on a mission to our silent celestial neighbor after a strange alien artifact is found during a construction project. Once the object is discovered to contain a message from an alien race and its origin is traced to Venus, the crew is both frightened and eager to see what awaits them once they land on a strange new world.
What they find is chilling indeed, both in its literal reality and in what warnings it may hold for our own race and the fate of the world we call home.
Sure the movie is dated now and we know things that people did not know about space travel and the nature of other worlds at the time this movie was made. Nevertheless, this movie is far more intelligent than its b-movie sci-fi facade would lead one to believe and anyone willing to let themselves get into its story and its message should be in for a treat

It is Veterans day here in the The States today and I thought I’d upload a cool little war movie for everyone to check out. Of course, the fact that it stars one of the coolest mofos in movie history doesn’t hurt either.
Major Sargent Sullivan (Van Cleef) has been selected to gather a team of Italian American soldiers in order to infiltrate an Italian held base in North Africa. The squad is to sneak in, kill all the enemy soldiers and hold the camp and its weaponry until an American battalion arrives. The idea is that they will be able to pass themselves off as the Italian soldiers they have replaced. All goes according to plan until the nearby Germans decide to visit their “allies” and a series of complications arrises.

When a movie opens with a sunrise over a ravaged landscape and a voiceover by Adam West that is describing a bleak, dystopian future, you know you are in for an evening of good/bad dumb fun.
Set in the ruined future that was brought about by an environmental disaster instead of the usual nuclear exchange, this sci-fi actioner chronicles the adventures of the last cop on Earth as he tries to save three imperiled women from a city full of slave traders and psychotic mutants.
